The overall aim of the thesis was to explore oral health challenges in refugees subjected to torture, in order to develop new knowledge that can lay the foundation for a better and more targeted oral health service. A mixed-methods approach was applied. Reduced oral health was found in refugees in general, with considerate impacts on daily performances. Torture victims were more prone to dental anxiety compared to other refugees, and undergoing dental treatment stood out as especially challenging to individuals suffering from PTSD.
