Platelets play a major role in vivo in preventing bleeding, hemostasis, and contributing to uncontrolled clotting, thrombosis. Platelets are impacted in health and disease by the other cells they encounter in blood flow, including red blood cells (RBCs), white blood cells (WBCs), and the endothelial cell monolayer lining blood vessel walls.
