The paper deals with the phenomenon of epiploke, with which the ancient theory explained the “connection” and the genesis of all metrical forms. With the concept of epiploke it is possible to understand the reason of the metrical variety of colometries handed down from the manuscripts and often modified from modern editors. In particular, in the first two choral songs of Suppliant Women the accurate use of the meters belonging to the three kinds of epiplokai (i. Iambs and trochees vv. 71-86; ii. Dactyls and anapaests vv. 271-285; iii. Ionics and choriambs vv. 42-61) seems coherent with the development of the them atic lines
