National audienceIn most applications, power consumption has become a major criterion in the design of embedded electronic devices. The requirements of target applications may influence the design of systems with very low power consumption or with managed temperature, or a combination of the two for some systems. Mobile and embedded systems powered by batteries belong to the first type of application. The second type of application involves complex chips, including a large number of transistors (e.g. multimedia processing and video games). For these systems, different hardware techniques can be used inside chips, allowing power consumption to be controlled and reduced.
