While news reporting follows a well-established tradition, which claims to be ‘objective, ‘neutral’ and ‘impartial’ and which often obscures the subjective role of the journalistic author in constructing the text, the report clearly activates a negative assessment of climate-induced migrants through affect and the exaggerated suggestion of “hundreds of millions” of refugees as an impending threat (Thomson and White 2008, 3).
