Sustainable materials are urgently desired for treatment of radioactive cesium (Cs) contaminated water to safe-guard the public health. Apart from the synthetic ligand-based materials, the Mangrove charcoal modified adsorbent was fabricated for assessing of Cs removal from waste sample. The raw charcoal was oxidized using nitrification approach and diverse oxygen containing carboxyl, carbonyl and hydroxyl functional groups were introduced. After modification, the adsorbent characteristics were drastically changed as compared to the charcoal during the measurement of FTIR, N2 adsorption-desorption isotherms and SEM micrographs.
