International audienceThe aim of the present work was to study the thermodynamic equilibria between water and a homo-ionic montmorillonite SWy-1 saturated by different cations. The choice of this smectite is justified by the large set of experimental data available from the literature for eight different interlayer cations: Na(+), K(+), Rb(+), Cs(+), Mg(2+), Ca(2+), Sr(2+), and Ba(2+). In particular, studies by Cases et al. (1992, 1997) and Berend et al.
