The deep structure of the lithosphère is investigated in two convergent zones : the Aegean subduction zone and the collision zone in Iran. To obtain constraints on the lithospheric structure, the surface waves recorded by temporary broadband stations located in these regions are analysed. In the Aegean Sea, four S-wave velocity cross-sections show a hight velocity anomaly associated to the subducting slab. In the northern part of the region a large low velocity anomaly is observed at a depth of 100-150 km. Its size, combined with its location immediately below the area of intense surface deformation, support a model of a distributed deformation of the upper mantle in this particular area.
