A method for detecting clouds and dust in the atmosphere from the ground by uv-visible zenith sky spectroscopy is proposed. It is based on the study of the variation of the color of the sky at twilight. The method is applied to the detection of polar stratospheric clouds observed during the campaign Cheops III (Chemistry of ozone in the polar stratosphere) in 1990 in Scandinavia. A radiative transfer model in simple scattering mode has been developed for the interpretation of observations. This method has been then applied to the definition of an optical sensor for the detection of dust storms and clouds in the Martian atmosphere from ground stations during the Franco-Russian mission Mars-94Une méthode de détection des nuages et des poussiè...
