Le Maroc est parmi les pays où l’eau constitue un enjeu majeur et une situation à risque en raison de la demande croissante et des incertitudes liées à l’approvisionnement à cause des changements climatiques. Après le lancement du « Plan Maroc Vert » en avril 2008, un « Programme National d’Economie d’Eau en Irrigation (PNEEI) » a été déclaré en 2009 avec un objectif ambitieux visant une économie d’eau allant de 20 à 50% du volume mobilisé, une augmentation des rendements des cultures de 10 à 100% par rapport à 2008 et un doublement de la valeur ajoutée par m3 d’eau en passant de 2,6 DH/m3 à 5,6 DH/m3.
