Conformal Boundary Conditions | Conditions aux bords dans les théories conformes

URL: http://www-spht.cea.fr/articles/t00/189/The question of boundary conditions in conformal field theories is discussed, in the light of recent progress. Solving the consistency condition known as Cardy equation is shown to amount to the algebraic problem of finding integer valued representations of the fusion algebra. Graphs encode these boundary conditions in a natural way, but are also relevant in several aspects of physics ``in the bulk''. Quantum algebras attached to these graphs contain information on structure constants of the operator algebra, on the Boltzmann weights of the corresponding integrable lattice models etc. Thus Boundary Conformal Field Theory offers a new perspective on several old problems. ----- La question des conditions aux bords dans les théories de champs conformes est discutée, à la lumière de progrès récents. On montre que la résolution de l'équation de compatibilité de Cardy est équivalente au problème algébrique de trouver des représentations à valeurs entières non négatives de l'algèbre de fusion. Des graphes codent ces conditions aux limites de façon naturelle et apparaissent aussi dans divers aspects de la physique ``dans la masse'' (bulk). Des algèbres quantiques attachées à ces graphes contiennent de l'information sur les constantes de structure de l'algèbre d'opérateurs, sur les poids de Boltzmann des modèles sur réseau correspondants etc. L'étude des théories conformes à bords offre donc une perspective nouvelle sur plusieurs problèmes anciens
