We investigate, from a theoretical viewpoint and through numerical simulations, the instability of curvature radiation of a relativistic beam of charged particles in a very strong curved magnetic field, which is of interest as a pulsar radio radiation mechanism. The conditions for growth are a fairly steep boundary at the outer edge of the beam and high frequencies, meeting a non-WKB requirement.
