National audienceA methodology to select acute respiratory toxicity thresholds for land use planning The French acute toxicity thresholds (VSTAF) are regulatory toxicological reference values used for land use planning. Based on hazard assessment and the identification of dangerous phenomena, these thresholds are used to determine the zones where toxic effects are present. In the absence of VSTAF, companies must propose a set of acute thresholds for required risk assessments. Two options are available: (1) development of their own thresholds following the applicable French methodology or (2) choosing (and justifying the choice) from among existing international acute threshold values.
