Elle se transforme en alumine y qui est une solution d'hydroxyle et d'alumine dont la teneur en ions OH- dépend également de la température et de la pression de vapeur d'eau. La transformation globale boehmite/alumine γ est donc la superposition de deux équilibres divariants entre la vapeur d'eau et chacune des deux phases et d'une transformation monovariante qui est un changement de structure sans variation de composition.
