Benzotriazole (BTA) is a well known and extremely effective inhibitor for the corrosion of copper and its alloys in a variety of media. It conveniently absorbs onto copper and its oxide surfaces from chloride solutions to form a surface film. This paper presents the results of electrode impedance measurements in the absorption of BTA onto cuprous oxide surface and makes a suggestion, on the basis of these results, as to the mechanism of the formation of the copper-benzotriazole surface complex
