Von recklinghausen's disease, review of the literature on its variants

La neurofibromatosis es un trastorno neurocutáneo caracterizado por tumores en el sistema nervioso y la piel. Los tipos más comunes de neurofibromatosis son los tipos 1 y 2, ambos autosómicas dominantes. La neurofibromatosis tipo 1, también conocida como enfermedad de von Recklinghausen, se presenta con neurofibromas, manchas cafés con leche, pecas y gliomas ópticos. La neurofibromatosis tipo 2 se caracteriza por schwannomas vestibulares bilaterales y meningiomas. El tratamiento de la neurofibromatosis tipo 1 y 2 implica el seguimiento clínico y la intervención médica cuando corresponda. Esta revisión describe la fisiopatología, evaluación y manejo de la neurofibromatosis y destaca el rol del equipo interprofesional en el manejo de los pacientes afectados por esta condición.Neurofibromatosis is a neurocutaneous disorder characterized by tumors in the nervous system and skin. The most common types of neurofibromatosis are types 1 and 2, both autosomal dominant. Neurofibromatosis type 1, also known as von Recklinghausen's disease, presents with neurofibromas, café-au-lait spots, freckles and optic gliomas. Neurofibromatosis type 2 is characterized by bilateral vestibular schwannomas and meningiomas. Treatment of neurofibromatosis type 1 and 2 involves clinical follow-up and medical intervention when appropriate. This review describes the pathophysiology, evaluation, and management of neurofibromatosis and highlights the role of the interprofessional team in the management of patients affected by this condition
