The Dengue virus transmits to people through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito (Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus). In 2015, Dengvaxia was introduced to the Philippines, making it the first Asian country to approve the commercial sale of Dengvaxia. In 2016, it caused a health scare in the country. It was found that the Dengvaxia vaccine increases the risk of disease severity for some people who had received it. Since then vaccine hesitancy on parents has become a huge issue in the Philippines.
