The level of knowledge on the use of dengue and polio vaccine among selected parents of minors in Dasmariñas and Imus, Cavite

The Dengue virus transmits to people through the bite of an infected Aedes species mosquito (Aedes aegypti or Aedes albopictus). In 2015, Dengvaxia was introduced to the Philippines, making it the first Asian country to approve the commercial sale of Dengvaxia. In 2016, it caused a health scare in the country. It was found that the Dengvaxia vaccine increases the risk of disease severity for some people who had received it. Since then vaccine hesitancy on parents has become a huge issue in the Philippines. Recently, the Philippines experienced another polio outbreak in 2019 making all children, regardless of whether they are covered by the mass immunization campaign or not, should be vaccinated according to the routine. The study aimed to examine the different factors that affect the level of knowledge on the use of dengue and polio vaccine among selected parents of minors in Dasmariñas and Imus, Cavite. The researchers collected data through voluntary response sampling via online survey, with the total of 50 respondents. The findings of the study indicate that different factors such as age, sex, educational attainment, employment status, and monthly income of the respondents do not affect their knowledge about Dengue and Polio Vaccine. In this case, parents should continue to be educated and ensure that their children receive appropriate medications and proper health care
