The Analysis of Directive Speech Act in Beauty and the Beast film

Directive speech act is a language phenomenon in pragmatics as a branch of language studies in linguistics which is a speech given by a speaker in the hope that the addressee can perform the action that the speaker expects to do.The study focuses on analyzing directive speech act are used in Beauty and The Beast film.This study aims to identify and analyze directive speech acts using the theory proposed by Keith Allan and the functions of directive speech acts using the theory proposed by Roman Jakobson. The data of this research were all utterances directive speech act spoken by all characters.The method used in this research was descriptive qualitative and used documentation technique as a data collection method. The results of the study showed that there were directive speech act found in the film they are: Questions, Requirements, Request, Prohibitive, Permissive, and Advisory. There were functions of directive speech found in the film they are: Expressive, conative, and referential. From the results of the research, it is known that Question is the most types. For functions directive speech acts, the most found is conative
