Turn Taking Produced in The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

In this thesis, the writer will examine the turn changes used by participants in The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. The aims of this research are: (1) to find the turn taking strategy (2) the construction component and the allocation component (3) and to find the turn rule in The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. To answer the problem formulation in this thesis, the writer uses 2 theories, namely (1) theory of turn taking strategy by Anna Strenstrom (2) theory of structural components and components of turn allocation by Sack, and (3) theory of turn taking rules by Sack. This study uses descriptive qualitative research methods. For data collection techniques, the authors use documentation. The results of this study indicate that: First, the authors found 36 data categorized as turn-taking strategies. There are 12 data found in the turn taking strategy. Holding a turn found 13 data. Generates turn finds 11 data. Second, participants usually use the turn construction component (TCC) because they usually take turns directly to other speakers. Meanwhile, participants rarely used turn allocation (TAC) because they were free to speak so they did not accidentally allocate their turn to other speakers. Third, the rules in the turn to speak mostly appear in rule B. They mostly speak freely, where sometimes the presenter takes a turn to make sure the conversation or dialogue takes place
