Gingivitis crónica: asociación con sexo, higiene bucal y depresión

Introduction: gingivitis is the type of periodontal disease most frequently observed in young patients. Objective: to determine the association between chronic gingivitis and the main risk factors such as sex, oral hygiene and depression in ninth grade students of the Batalla de Guisa Basic Secondary School of the Guisa municipality in the year 2021. Method: an observational, analytical, case-control study was carried out in ninth grade students of the Batalla de Guisa Basic Secondary School of the Guisa municipality in the year 2021. The study universe was constituted by 360 students and the sample of 90, 30 cases and 60 controls were selected, through the type of simple random sampling. The variables studied were: presence of chronic gingivitis, sex, oral hygiene and depression. Frequencies (numbers and percentages) were determined and the Chi-square test (x2) was used to determine the association between variables, with statistical significance when p was less than 0.05, Odds Ratio (OR) and a confidence level of 95%. Results: the population studied was characterized by the predominance of chronic gingivitis in the male sex (70 %). The most frequent risk factor, in general, was depression (48.89 %) (p= 0.031), as in those affected. Conclusion: The association between depression and morbidity due to chronic gingivitis was found.Introducción: la gingivitis es el tipo de enfermedad periodontal que se observa con más frecuencia en los pacientes jóvenes.Objetivo: determinar la asociación entre la gingivitis crónica y los principales factores de riesgo como sexo, higiene bucal y depresión en los estudiantes de noveno grado de la Secundaria Básica Batalla de Guisa del municipio Guisa en el año 2021.Método: se realizó un estudio observacional, analítico, de caso-control en los estudiantes de noveno grado de la Secundaria Básica Batalla de Guisa del municipio Guisa en el año 2021. El universo de estudio estuvo constituido por 360 estudiantes y la muestra de 90, se seleccionaron 30 casos y 60 controles, a través del tipo de muestreo aleatorio simple. Las variables estudiadas fueron: presencia de gingivitis crónica, sexo, higiene bucal y depresión. Se determinaron las frecuencias (números y porcientos), para la asociación entre las variables se empleó el test de Chi cuadrado (x2) con significación estadística cuando p fue menor de 0,05, Odds Ratio (OR) y un nivel de confianza del 95 %.Resultados: la población estudiada se caracterizó por el predominio de la gingivitis crónica en el sexo masculino (70 %). El factor de riesgo más frecuente, de manera general, fue la depresión (48,89 %) (p= 0,031), al igual que en los afectados.
