This article is proposed a brief reflection on the relationship between authoritarianism, economic elites and cultural capital in Brazilian politics. It was assumed that this reflection is important in that it helps to understand Brazilian authoritarianism not as an a priori, immanent and pre-established truth, but as the result of a social construction, susceptible to tensions and resistance. The contributions of Pierre Bourdieu, José Murilo de Carvalho and Jessé Souza, among others, were mainly used.
