The aim of the following essay has been to examine what previous research has revealed about how women get represented in textbooks in social studies. With the help of a literature search, 10 different research papers have been used to answer the purpose of the essay. The results are mainly divided into three different categories, the depth of which we delve into how women get represented in the text and images, as well as an analysis of the authors of the textbooks. The results show that women do not play an equally obvious role in the textbooks and an under-representation of women is clear in all categories, as well as the authors.
