The research on ship's maneuverability and its parameters in relation with port infrastructure

The dissertation examines the maneuvering characteristics of ships at low depth, taking into account the maritime safety requirements in ports. Over the last decade, the extent of maritime transport has increased dramatically, with step-up in size of ships under construction, and the technical requirements for ports being raised so that the existing port infrastructure, its channels and ships turning basins are designed and equipped to ensure the required safety of shipping at ports and port access. The object of the research in this dissertation is the ship and its maneuverability. The dynamics of the ship is analysed at low depths, that are different from those at large depths, resulting in additional external forces that need to be assessed. On the other hand, port infrastructure parameters are considered taking into account the dimensions of port ducts and swim pools required for maneuvering inbound ships. The dissertation deals with several main tasks: calculations of the ships maneuvering parameters, simulation of ship motion, experimental investigation. All research was based on the methodology for evaluating the ship's in the port, on the basis of which the necessary port infrastructure parameters can be determined
