Social services to maintain the life quality of the elderly people at a care home

Demographic and technological changes, the challenges and opportunities of globalization are leading people to emigrate to other countries, leaving their elderly parents behind which is causing the increase in number of socially disadvantaged older people. The aging of the population is a pressing issue that places new demands on the service sector. In order to improve the quality of life of the elderly in institutional care and positive socialization, it is important to improve social services. Although, most authors have studied social services in various aspects, there is a lack of works on what social services could help maintain the elderly people’s life quality in institutional care. The purpose of research – to reveal Social Services theoretically and empirically in order to maintain the Quality of Life of older adults at care homes. The methods of the research: Analysis of academic literature and documents, qualitative research (interview), statistical analysis of the data. The content analysis method was applied. The sample consisted of 6 social workers working in nursing homes. Respondents were surveyed using the convenient sample methods. The research was conducted in accordance with ethical principles. The results of the survey. The number of older people in need of social services in care homes is growing. Waiting in a queue ranges from a few months to a year, so the number of waiting people can range from 20 to more. The activities in care homes must be aimed at the multifaceted satisfaction of the physiological and social needs of individuals, increasing employment by restoring their skills and abilities and helping to restore social ties. Social workers are positive about the provision of social services in nursing homes. Professionalism of social workers, love, motivation, attitude to work of the employee is guarantee for quality of social services. The successful provision of social services is influenced by the goals set by the administration, the tasks on which the activities are based. The difficulties are due to the limited financial resources of the institution, various conflict situations. Social workers feel overwhelmed, due to the excessive workload caused by the particularly high completion of various documents, which affects the quality of social services. Conclusion. High - quality social services at care home help to keep the elderly people's quality of life
