Basal ganglia accounts to most common site of hemorrhagic stroke (50%). Right hemisphere lesions that are restricted to basal ganglia are responsible for perceptual disorders such as unilateral neglect. Unilateral Neglect is a very common perceptual disorder that occurs after stroke. Unilateral neglect when compared to the stroke severity results in poor overall recovery. It may involve longer hospitalization period, functional dependency, long term disability in ADLs as well as increased risk of falls. Postural imbalance is more prevalent with right hemisphere lesions. Stroke survivors with right hemisphere damage have less ability to ambulate.
