A Historical Analysis Of Monetary Policies VIS-A-VIS Fiscal Policies In Regard To Economic Stability

Aims of the Study I have two sets of sims in this study• general aims, and specific aims. General Aims My general purposes are three fold; namely (a) to describe the various agencies whose functions are to regulate the monetary and fiscal phases of the dynamic economy; (b) to isolate and analyze monetary and fiscal problems that characterize the economy and (c) to discover whether actual and proposed programs tend toward stabilization of the economy at high levels of employment and production. Specific Aims My specific aims are: (a) to analyze the specific role played by fiscal and monetary instruments in achieving economic stability; (b) to show the operation of certain monetary theories in economic fluctuations. Scope of This Study The scope of this study has been limited with respect to time, place, and phase Time Covered The time of this study covers the period from 1930 to 1968. This period embraces the great depression of 1930 to 1938, World War II, and the post-war period from 1945 to 1968. Phases Emphasized This study is divided into three phases. The first phase deals with the study of the monetary and fiscal policies from 1930 to 1940. The second phase deals with the study of the monetary and fiscal policies together with certain selective policies which were created during World War II. The third phase deals with the post-war period from 1945 to 1968. In each part, I shall emphasize the agencies of a fiscal nature, the mechanisms involved, and the specific functions and policies carried out at specific times as well as the monetary agencies created, the functions of these agencies and policies executed to meet specific problems. In addition, I shall analyze receipts and expenditures of the federal government and the management of its debt. To do so I shall have to evaluate these agencies and instruments on the basis of their effectiveness in achieving stability and maintaining full employment, full production, high purchasing power and adequate consumption
