The area of weight-training has proved to be a fertile one for study in physical education. Little research has centered upon the effects of a systematic training program on athletes. As a result, many physical education instructors and coaches remain skeptical as to its value for the boys and to whether or not this activity can be incorporated safely into the extra-curricular program of the school. This investigation has been an attempt to fill this void with empirical data derived from the results of a six-weeks weight training program with a group of five varsity basketball players and five non-basketball players.
