The Catalytic Oxidation Of Toluene In The Vapor Phase To Benzoic Acid

Much work has been undertaken and performed on the oxidation of toluene to benzoic acid by Vapor Phase Method. The purpose of this study Is to attempt to increase the yields by the use of various types of furnaces. Toluene is known as methyl-benzene, and has the molecular formula C6H5CH3 the empirical formula C7H8 and may be represented by the following structural formulas. Previous work on the use of Tin Vanadate as a oxidation catalyst in the Vapor Phase, have been conducted.* This study was undertaken to throughly study and make a survey of the conditions under which catalysts would best promote the various reactions from the atmosphere through the use of compressed air, that is compressed through pipes by the use of a motor driven electric machine
