In the present work the objective is to demonstrate that in Altamirano's narrative there is an apology for the indigenous and a critique of the Spanish heritage, to promote a better understanding of how this writer promoted in Mexicans the nation consciousness. Is taken as a theoretical framework the work of Alejandro Cortázar, Reforma, novel and nation.
