Bu çalışma, Türkiye'nin Ege Denizi kıyılarında dağılım gösteren sünger türlerinin (Phylum: Porifera) taksonomik, ekolojik ve dağılım özelliklerini belirlemek amacıyla yapılmıştır. Bu kapsamda, farklı derinlik ve biyotoplarda seçilen 36 kıyı ve 7 açık deniz istasyonlarından örneklemeler yapılmıştır. Kıyısal istasyonlarda örneklemeler tüplü ve serbest dalışlarla, açık deniz istasyonlarında dip trolü çekimleri ile gerçekleştirilmiştir. Örneklerin faunistik analizleri sonucu 3 Sınıf, 17 Ordo ve 40 familyaya ait toplam 114 tür tespit edilmiş olup, bu türlerden, 10'u Ege Denizi, 9'u Doğu Akdeniz ve 16'sı Türkiye sünger faunası için yenidir.
