Aşamalı görev sisteminin güvenilirliği, görevin alt hedeflerini her aşamada başarıyla gerçekleştirme olasılığıdır. Uygulamalı bu sistemler tamir edilemeyen ve tamir edilebilen sistemler olarak iki şekilde ele alınır. Tamir edilemeyen sistemler, herhangi bir bozulma veya aksamaya maruz kalmadan çalışan sistemlerdir. Tamir edilebilen sistemler, bozulmuş bir bileşeni normal çalışma durumuna getirerek yeni bir çalışan sistemin meydana geldiği yapılardan oluşmaktadır. Tamir edilebilen bileşenlerden meydana gelen sistemlerin aşamalarında, istatistiksel olarak bağımlılık söz konusu olmaktadır.
