The effect of balneotherapy in the treatment of ankilosing spondylitis

28 Ankilozan Spondilitli hastada balneoterapinin etkisi incelendi. Grup I (n= 17) günlük kükürtlü su ile tedavi gördü. Grup II (n= 11) günlük sıcak su banyosu ile tedavi edildi. Tüm hastalar tedavilerinin bitiminde egzersiz uygulamalarını sürdürdüler. Ağrı, tutukluk, kafa (occiput)- duvar aralığı, çene manibrium aralığı, schober, göğüs ekspansiyonu değerlendirme ölçütleri idi. Ölçümler tedavi biçimini bilmeyen bir araştırmacı tarafından yapıldı. I. grup hastalarda üç haftalık tedavi bitiminde istatistiksel anlamlı bir düzelme görüldü.The effect of Balneotherapy in Ankylosing spondylitis was studied in a randomized-controlled trial completed by 28 patients. Group I (n= 17) was treated with daily sulfur baths. Group II (n= ll) was treated with daily hot water baths. All patients performed exercises after their treatment sessions. Pain, stiffness, occiput-to-wall distance, chain-tomanibrium, schober, chest expansion measurements were the evaluating parameters of the disease. Measurements were made by an observer who was blinded to the treatment modalities. Statistically significant improvement was observed in the first group after a period of three weeks. No thermal reaction and any side effect was seen
