Ebenezer Akakpo trained as a fine jeweler in his native Ghana and Italy before moving to Portland, Maine, in 1998 to attend the Maine College of Art. Today he designs jewelry in his Westbrook studio that incorporates traditional Ghanaian symbols called adinkra. He is also using his design skills to address the need for safe drinking water in rural Ghana, creating the Better Water Maker, a small filtration pump, which he ships to needy families
