CARACTERIZACIÓN SOCIOECONÓMICA Y PRODUCTIVA DE EXPLOTACIONES BOVINAS DE DOBLE PROPÓSITO DE PRODUCTORES ASOCIADOS EN COOPERATIVA, EN LAS LOCALIDADES DE TORTÍ, RÍO CONGO ARRIBA Y AGUA FRÍA

This research proposed to address the problem of information’s lack on livestock production, through the socio-economic and productive characterization of 25 dual-purpose cattle farms, associated in cooperative, in Torti, Rio Congo Arriba and Agua Fria. A descriptive, cross-sectional observational design was structured and based on a mixed research approach, based on the survey method applied to the owner of the cattle farm. The results showed that the average surface of the farms is 96.4 ha. 80% (20) produce grade C milk and 20% (5) grade B, with a mean productivity (± SD) of 5 ± 1.17 L / cow. 80% (20) of the farms correspond to the Type 3 family farming typology (Panama’s Legislation), 36% (9) of the farms identify cattle with numbers, using the earring and / or hide brand technique by hot iron, and 92% (23) of the farms does not keep livestock register records. The majority (80%; 20) of the owners have a primary education, and all have access to telecommunications (mobile phone network) and 72% (18) have access to fixed internet or through mobile data. Despite the important step of the producers to associate in a cooperative, there is evidence of the lack of interdisciplinary support aimed at the integral management of their farms and the human development of the family.Esta investigación planteó atender el problema de la precariedad de información sobre la producción pecuaria, mediante la caracterización socioeconómica y productiva de 25 explotaciones de doble propósito de ganado bovino, asociadas en cooperativa, en las localidades de Tortí, Río Congo Arriba y Agua Fría. Se estructuró un diseño observacional de corte transversal, de nivel descriptivo y basado en un enfoque de investigación mixto. Se fundamentó en el método de encuesta aplicado al propietario de la explotación. Los resultados arrojaron que el tamaño total promedio de las fincas es 96.4 ha. 80% (20) produce leche grado C y 20% (5) grado B, con una productividad media (±DE) de 5±1.17 L/vaca. El 80% (20) de las fincas se corresponden con la tipología de agricultura familiar Tipo 3 (Legislación de Panamá), el 36% (9) de las fincas identifica el ganado con numeración, mediante la técnica de arete y/o ferrete, y el 92% (23) de las fincas no lleva registros ganaderos. La mayoría (80%; 20) de los propietarios tienen una escolaridad primaria, y todos tienen acceso a las telecomunicaciones (red de teléfono móvil) y un 72% (18) tiene acceso a internet fijo o por medio de datos móviles. A pesar del importante paso de los productores para asociarse en cooperativa, se evidencia la falta de apoyo y acompañamiento interdisciplinario en temáticas dirigidas al manejo integral de sus explotaciones y al desarrollo humano de la familia
