From the text: The history of the 3rd United States Volunteer Infantry Regiment in Nebraska, Colorado and Wyoming is not known as well as that of units that were active in the eastern and western theaters of the Civil War, but the more than nine hundred soldiers and officers of this unit, and nearly five thousand other “Galvanized Yankees,” fulfilled an important function on the western frontier during the last year of that conflict.https://openspaces.unk.edu/ctr-books/1000/thumbnail.jp
