Investigations of a number of photochemical cross-linking reactions are reported for the preparation of functional polymeric materials. Reactions that require constant inputs of light and do not proceed through radical or ionic mechanisms are studied, and the final properties of these materials are characterized. This work aims to expand the scope of available photo-cross-linking reactions for the preparation of functional materials. The incorporation of photodimerizable anthracene into a thermally healable vinylogous urethane copolymer enables light-induced post-polymerization UV cross-linking.
