In the article we present the issue of pre-excitation syndromes. We present their classification and the translation of anatomy to the electrocardiographic records from a historical perspective. We describe the pathomechanism of the initiation and persistence of pathognomonic for patients with an accessory pathway atrioventricular tachycardias: orthodromic and antidromic. We present indications and methods of treatment with particular attention on invasive treatment (ablation). This is bec ause the majority of patients have indications for invasive treatment (all patients with an accessory pathway potentially increasing the risk of sudden cardiac death and symptomatic patients).
