Defocused digital images may be effectively restored if the imaging system\u27s Optical Transfer Function (OTF) is known. In this paper, Wiener filtering based on known OTFs is applied to noisy, defocused images to characterize the conditions for useful restoration for a range of noise and defocus levels. Restoration mean-square-error is measured over these ranges as a function of a constant noise/object power spectrum ratio in the Wiener filter equation
