We present the results of a preliminary measurement of the performance parameters for a newly developed transverse-discharge copper-vapor laser that was successfully operated at 5 kHz in steady-state mode. In unoptimized operation, an average power of 1.8 W was obtained at 5 kHz in steady-state mode with an efficiency of 0.48%. The power output increases almost linearly with the repetition rate. This demonstrates that it is now possible to develop discharge-heated transverse-discharge copper-vapor lasers (TD-CVL\u27s) for practical applications. © 1990 IEE
