Optimum pulse shapes used in quadrature binary modulation (QBM) systems to achieve spectral confinement and low sidelobe levels have been successfully implemented using SAW FIR filters. Performance criteria such as spectral confinement, sidelobe level, and envelope uniformity have been theoretically predicted and experimentally verified in an Additive White Gaussian Noise (AWGN) channel environment for SAW based quadrature binary modulators such as QPSK, and MSK.
