Analysis of technician performance of Space Shuttle maintenance operations on the Thermal Protection System (TPS) has resulted in experimentation with, and modification of a Universal Ergonomic Support Stand (UESS). The modified UESS is designed to provide upper body, back, neck, arm, thigh and lower leg support for standing/sitting leaning forward or backward posture positions. Experiments were conducted involving the use of the UESS when performing overhead tasks. Results indicate an enhancement in human performance and reduction in the pain and discomfort experienced by specific body parts
