LUGARES SOLENES, PODERES EM CONFLITOS: AS DISPUTAS POR ESPAÇOS NA PROCISSÃO DA RESSURREIÇÃO NA CIDADE DE NATAL-RN (SEGUNDA METADE DO SETECENTOS)

Therefore, this article is based on an initial study that aims to analyze the reasons that led to these conflicts and the importance attached to the living space that permeated the festivities in the captaincy of Rio Grande, in the second half of the eighteenth century. In Portuguese America, the festivities held in the urban space of the colony was presented as an important instrument of affirmation of the Portuguese Empire extension. Thus, besides the parties become an space of representation of the imperialistic power, those who organized ended up having established a social and political function. It was sought to an authority legitimation by local elites of the city, and thus favored the development of power struggles. Based on the analysis of the letters and provisions of the Senate of Rio Grande, and loose documents of Rio Grande do Norte of the Overseas Historical Archive, it was established that in the second half of the eighteenth century, there were conflicts between authorities in the city of Natal. These were the disputes of space between local forces, such as the clash between the Royal Treasury Provider and chamber officials about the place behind the canopy in the procession of the Resurrection, in 1758. Another conflict being examined occurred in 1798, when the provider of the Royal Treasury of Rio Grande do Norte, Antonio Carneiro de Albuquerque Gondim, complained of the Vicar Feliciano José Dornelas the removal of his chair of the church main on the city that always belonged to Providers.Este artigo é baseado em um estudo inicial que pretende analisar as motivações que conduziram a esses conflitos e a importância conferida ao espaço de vivência que permeavam as festividades na capitania do Rio Grande, na segunda metade do século XVIII. Na América Portuguesa, as festividades realizadas no espaço urbano da colônia apresentavam-se como um importante instrumento de afirmação da extensão do Império português. Assim, além de as festas tornarem-se um espaço de representação do poder do Império, quem as organizava acabavam ocupando funções sociais e políticas. Buscava-se uma legitimação de autoridade por parte das elites locais da cidade, e com isso favoreciam o desenvolvimento de conflitos de poder. Com base na análise das cartas e provisões do Senado da Câmara do Rio Grande, e dos documentos avulsos da capitania do Rio Grande do Norte do Arquivo Histórico Ultramarino, foi possível constatar que na segunda metade do século XVIII ocorreram conflitos entre autoridades na cidade do Natal. Tratavam-se de disputas de espaço entre forças locais, como o embate entre o Provedor da Fazenda Real e os oficiais da câmara acerca do lugar atrás do pálio na procissão da Ressurreição, em 1758. Outro conflito a ser analisado ocorreu em 1798, quando o Provedor da Fazenda Real do Rio Grande do Norte, António Carneiro de Albuquerque Gondim, reclamou do Vigário Feliciano José Dornelas a retirada de sua cadeira da Igreja Matriz da cidade que sempre pertenceu aos Provedores
