Camus y Kafka. Fundamentos de la filosofía del absurdo

Franz Kafka’s work has proved to speak to our times in an unusual way. Some twentieth century writers such as Albert Camus noted the potency of Kafka’s work to account for the new times and held him as one of the inspirers of existentialism. However, since existential philosophy was somewhat overshadowed by structuralism and other movements related to May 68, the existentialist reading of Kafka, which was used by Camus mainly for the construction of a philosophy of the absurd, was also abandoned. The purpose of the present article is to recover Camus’ existentialist reading of Kafka, but going a step further than that given by the French-Algerian Nobel: the idea is not only to show that Kafka’s work presents the features of the absurd, but that, through the Austro-Hungarian writer’s own life, the features of the absurd man are also glimpsed, features without which his work would not have been possible.La obra de Franz Kafka ha probado hablar a nuestro tiempo de un modo inusitado. Algunos escritores del siglo XX como Albert Camus notaron la potencia de la obra de Kafka para dar cuenta de los nuevos tiempos y le tuvieron como uno de los inspiradores del existencialismo. No obstante, dado que la filosofía existencial fue un tanto opacada por el estructuralismo y otros movimientos afines a mayo del 68, también se abandonó la lectura existencialista de Kafka, que fue usada por Camus principalmente para la construcción de una filosofía del absurdo. El propósito del presente artículo es recobrar la lectura existencialista que Camus hace de Kafka, pero yendo un paso más adelante que el dado por el nobel franco-argelino: la idea no solo es mostrar que la obra kafkiana presenta los rasgos del absurdo, sino que, a través de la propia vida del escritor austrohúngaro, también se vislumbran los rasgos del hombre absurdo, rasgos sin los cuales su obra no habría sido posible
