Motor vehicle accidents are one of the leading causes for neck injuries often referred to as whiplash associated disorders (WAD). Several methods are used to clinically evaluate the neck condition following an injury, including assessment of cervical mobility, proprioception, and movement control. The aim of this study was to make these assessments in WAD subjects (n = 28) and compare the measurements with asymptomatic controls (n = 30). Furthermore, to study the effects of demographic variables on the outcome, and the correlation between the assessment methods. Cervical range of motion (ROM), proprioception, and movement control was quantified by measuring head movement in four clinically validated assessment tests; two cervical ROM tests (cervical mobility), head-neck relocation test (proprioception), and the Butterfly test (movement control). The WAD group had reduced cervical ROM in all directions, although the difference was not significant in lateral flexion. Proprioception was generally similar between the two groups. Movement control was significantly worse in the WAD group, but the smoothness of the movements was similar between groups. Multiple regression analysis of the asymptomatic group showed effects of age and weight on the cervical ROM, and effects of age on the movement control. Demographics had a minimum effect on the proprioception and no effect on the upper cervical ROM. In the WAD group, effects of age and height were found for the cervical ROM and movement control, respectively. Correlation analysis showed the greatest relationship between the ROM tests, and the Butterfly test. The least correlation was observed between the head-neck relocation test and other tests. Overall, the measurements showed a clear difference between the two study groups as the WAD group generally performed worse on the tests. The outcome of this study may be used as reference for future measurements using an equivalent system, setup, and protocol.Aftanákeyrsla er ein helsta orsök hálshnykkja. Fjögur klínísk próf voru notuð til að meta höfuð- og hálshreyfingar, þar af tvö hreyfigetu próf, hreyfi- og stöðuskyns próf og hreyfistjórnunar próf. Einstaklingar sem höfðu fengið hálshnykk voru með skerta hreyfigetu í allar áttir, þó munurinn væri ekki marktækur á milli hópa í hliðar beygju. Hreyfi- og stöðuskyn var almennt svipað í báðum hópum. Nákvæmni hreyfinga í hálshnykks hóp var verri en hjá einkennalausum, en hreyfingar voru álíka samfelldar í báðum hópum. Línuleg aðhvarfsgreining á einkennalausa hópnum sýndi að aldur og þyngd höfðu áhrif á hreyfigetu, og aldur hafði áhrif á hreyfistjórnun. Lýðfræðileg einkenni höfðu lágmarks áhrif á hreyfi- og stöðuskyn og engin áhrif á hreyfigetu í efri hálsi. Í hálshnykks hópnum höfðu aldur áhrif á hreyfigetu og hæð áhrif á hreyfistjórnun. Fylgni greining sýndi mestu fylgni á milli hreyfigetu og hreyfistjórnunar. Minnst fylgni var á milli hreyfi- og stöðuskyns prófs og annarra prófa. Heilt yfir sýndu mælingarnar skýran mun á milli hópa þar sem einstaklingar með hálshnykk fengu almennt verri niðurstöðu en einkennalausir. Útkomu þessarar rannsóknar má nota sem viðmiðunargildi fyrir aðrar mælingar sem nota sambærileg mælitæki, uppsetningar, og aðferðir
