Introduction: sarcopenia is a syndrome characterized by a progressive and generalized loss of skeletal muscle mass and strength with risk of functional impairment, increased probability of falls and loss of autonomy. Method: An integrative review of the scientific literature was carried out, using articles published in the PubMed®, BVS® and Scielo® databases in Portuguese and English.
