[Page 1] California June 17th 1866 A.D Deare uncle + Aunt. I take this opportunity of writing you a few lines to let you know wheare[?] we are and what we are doing in this world. In the first place we are all well at present which we are thankfull for gods blessings hoping when these few lines comes to hand they may find you and family all well I recieved a few lines from [xxx] McEver some three weeaks ago in a letter to G. W. P[xxxx] from Mrs McEver the first I have seen from Pope County since the war J. C. Shimm[?] got a letter from you some time ago But have not seen it I have hered from theire several times one way and a nother from said my folks was all well But have not heard a word from and of them. only from [xxx] Jake from Illinoise I had one from him and Mary Ann got one frome his wife. we have not heared from him since last March a yeare ago and I see not [xxx] wheather he has gon back to Arks or not. I think som one aught to wright as I do not no what offices is opend yet I got two letters from Wm. E. Shimm and the last one I did not unswer because I misplaced the letter ad and I forget his address. I wish you to let me no wheare he is so I can wright to him in his last letter he thought he would go back to Arks- last fall but I do not no wheather he went or no
