This paper discusses beginning teachers and teaching mathematics in times of pandemic. The question is: How do beginning teachers describe their experiences with teaching mathematics in 2020? The writing of five beginning teachers who teach mathematics in public schools in the city of Pelotas/RS is considered. The following units of sense are proposed: the experiences in relation to the teaching of mathematics; student participation; learning, difficulties and challenges in times of pandemic. The analyzes show that beginning teachers had some difficulties in organizing teaching actions during the year 2020, but they looked for possibilities to continue teaching mathematics, planning and organizing classes online or in print.
