D'une grammaire l'autre : catégorie d'adverbe et catégorie de maf‘ûl mutlaq

It closely integrates the contributions of the Arabic grammatical tradition and those of modern Western linguistics.The category labelled maf‘ûl mutlaq (MM) in the Arabic grammatical tradition is a semantically resultative complement and, in general, a morphologically internal complement of the verb, which governs it and assigns it the accusative case. It has an adverbial function (FA) or a verbal function (FV) depending on whether the governing verb is overt or covert.These two functions are combined in a subset of MM words which have in common with the MMFV the property of being apparently ungoverned by a verb in surface structure. They share with the MMFA the property of having scope. These dual-function MM words differ from the MMFV in that they have scope (the MMFV without scope make up a class of "formulas") and they differ from the MMFA by the type of scope they have : a sentence (MMP) rather than a constituent (MMC).Semantically, MMC have either a "corroborative" or a "specifying" value (either "qualification" or "quantification"). The scope of MMP is either the utterance or the act of speaking. In the latter case, they can either qualify the act of speaking or designate the illocutionary act accomplished by the uttering of the sentence. If they are speaker-oriented (I-reading), then they are performatives of the illocutionary act.Cet article se situe dans le cadre d'une grammaire comparée de l'arabe et du français d'une part, d'une grammaire historique de l'arabe classique d'autre part. Il mêle étroitement les apports de la tradition grammaticale arabe et ceux de la linguistique occidentale moderne.La catégorie étiquetée dans la grammaire arabe traditionnelle comme maf‘ûl mut'laq (MM) est un complément sémantiquement résultatif et formellement interne du verbe qui le régit à l'accusatif. Il assume une fonction adverbiale (FA) ou verbale (FV) selon qu'il est régi en surface par un verbe apparent ou en base par un verbe caché.Ces deux fonctions se combinent dans une classe de MM qui ont en commun avec les MMFV de n'être régis en surface par aucun verbe apparent et avec les MMFA d'avoir une incidence; ils diffèrent des MMFV par la présence d'une incidence et des MMFA par le type d'incidence : une phrase (MMP) au lieu d'un constituant (MMC).Sur le plan sémantique, les MMC ont une valeur soit de "corroboration", soit de "spécification" ("qualification" ou "quantification"). Les MMP portent soit sur l'énoncé, soit sur l'énonciation. En ce dernier cas, ils peuvent soit la qualifier, soit désigner l'acte illocutoire accompli en elle. S'ils se rattachent à l'énonciateur, ils sont alors performatifs de cet acte.En diachronie, enfin, les MMFA de l'arabe classique sont à l'origine de la forme adverbiale de l'arabe moderne, par mutation de -an (accusatif + indéfinition) en suffixe morphologique d'adverbe.
