Salud mental en contexto universitario en tiempos de pandemia: Mental health in a university context in times of pandemic

The current situation of society in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic has generated various sources of stress for people, affecting their habits during isolation and establishing unhealthy lifestyles, situations that can lead to physical and emotional problems. Education at all levels has also been affected, having to change the teaching-learning processes in a face-to-face manner to purely virtual processes, a condition that generates new problems for teachers and students (García, 2020). Given this situation, the social interaction project “UNAPSI: Mental Health in community, Promotion and prevention processes at the University of Nariño-Pasto” aims to strengthen Mental Health in members of that educational community, through advocacy and prevention processes. Within the framework of this project, it was found that it is necessary to identify the main effects and needs of students due to the pandemic, with a view to formulating different processes that contribute to their well-being. The logical framework approach was used as a planning methodology to structure its main elements. For the identification of needs and the analysisof problems, interviews were conducted with student leaders; with the information collected, a SWOTmatrix was developed. This gave way to the construction of the tree of problems, in which the causes and effects of the affectations on university welfare were identified. Based on the above, the objectives tree was developed that led to the formulation of intervention programs that address the three main needs identified: a) social skills and social support, b) psychological aspects versus COVID-19 andc) self-regulation processes. Within this framework, a programme of 5 workshops was implemented, aimed at strengthening the psychological well-being of university students. This space allowed to corroborate the information mentioned above, evidencing the current needs of the university community,especially the development of mourning and the effects on social skills, It also reduced the implications that the pandemic and the post-pandemic have generated for mental health, through the development ofcoping resources and the promotion of community-based wellness processes. The development of needsidentification processes and the formulation of intervention proposals aimed at strengthening the mental health and well-being of university education communities are recommended.La situación que actualmente atraviesa la sociedad a raíz de la pandemia por Covid-19, ha generado diversas fuentes de estrés para las personas, al afectar sus hábitos durante el aislamiento e instaurar estilos de vida poco saludables, situaciones que pueden generar problemas físicos y emocionales. La educación en todos sus niveles también se ha visto afectada, teniendo que cambiar los procesos de enseñanza-aprendizaje de manera presencial a procesos netamente virtuales, condición que genera nuevas problemáticas para docentes y estudiantes (García, 2020). Ante esta situación, el proyecto de interacción social “UNAPSI: Salud Mental en comunidad, Procesos de promoción y prevención en la Universidad de Nariño-Pasto” tiene como objetivo fortalecer la Salud Mental en integrantes de esa comunidad educativa, por medio de procesos de promoción y prevención. En el marco de este proyecto, se encontró que es necesario identificar las principales afectaciones y necesidades que presentan los estudiantes a causa de la pandemia, con miras a la formulación de diferentes procesos que contribuyan a su bienestar. Se hizo uso del enfoque de marco lógico, como metodología de planificación, que permitió estructurar sus principales elementos. Para la identificación de necesidades y el análisis de problemas, se desarrollaron entrevistas a líderes estudiantiles; con la información recolectada se realizó la elaboración de una matriz DOFA. Lo anterior, dio paso a la construcción del árbol de problemas, en el cual se logró identificar las causas y consecuencias de las afectaciones en el bienestar universitario. A partir de lo anterior, se elaboró el árbol de objetivos que conllevó a la formulación de programas de intervención que atendieran las tres principales necesidades detectadas: a) habilidades sociales y apoyo social, b) aspectos psicológicos frente a la COVID-19 y c) procesos de autorregulación. En este marco, se implementó un programa de 5 talleres, orientado al fortalecimiento del bienestar psicológico de estudiantes universitarios. Este espacio permitió corroborar la información anteriormente mencionada evidenciando las necesidades actuales de la comunidad universitaria, en especial la elaboración del duelo y las afectaciones en las habilidades sociales, así mismo redujo las implicaciones que la pandemia y la postpandemia han generado en la salud mental, por medio del desarrollo de recursos de afrontamiento y la promoción de procesos comunitarios orientados al bienestar. Se recomienda el desarrollo de procesos de identificación de necesidades y la formulación de propuestas de intervención orientadas al fortalecimiento de la salud mental y el bienestar de las comunidades educativas universitarias
