A Message from the Editor

As the world currently enters a new season, constant flux is salient in the natural environment. Human wellness is interconnected with the natural environment; in the diversity of international Indigenous Peoples, this value is strongly held across all cultures. The health of Indigenous Peoples around the world is also entering an era of change in terms of recovery from the initial impacts of the global COVID-19 pandemic, which exacerbated existing challenges and leveraged community strengths. In Canada, the last year has seen the resurgence of intergenerational trauma play out within a landscape of ostensible reconciliation on the part of health and government systems; the discovery of mass graves of Indigenous children, who have been missing for decades, at Indian resi- dential schools across the country, served to provide a bitter I-told-you-so from Indigenous families and communities, while settler governments offered (sometimes) sincere apologies and outrage at the injustice. Meanwhile, general society expects Indigenous Peoples to move on and continue to manage wellness and illness despite the often-untenable circumstances created by surrounding colo- nial systems. Some articles in this issue are illuminations of the traumas and barriers created by health systems during the pandemic, which are important to understand so that Indigenous Knowl- edges – and the solutions they hold, can be generated, while creating positive, new relationships in the process
